The Cobb County office of Atlanta Legal Aid Society's Hispanic Outreach Project seeks a full-time bilingual legal assistant for a 1-year renewable position. The Hispanic Project provides free civil legal services to low-income Cobb County residents who only speak Spanish. Job responsibilities include: screening new clients; referring clients to the appropriate attorney, agency or service; interpreting; translating correspondence and documents between English and Spanish; conducting factual investigations; counseling victims of domestic abuse; corresponding with clients; maintaining client files; and advising clients on legal rights and procedures, all under the direction of an attorney. The paralegal will help coordinate training sessions for social workers in the international community and prepare and distribute educational materials. Fluency in written and oral Spanish is required. Salary range begins at $27,500 to $32,500 DOE, excellent fringe benefits. The position will be closed when it is filled.
